Outside of sectors like textiles, where high relative humidity is essential, humidification has often been treated as optional or ignored altogether. For control of bacteria and viruses the recommended Relative Humidity is between 40 and 60% for all HVAC applications – especially in pharmaceutical industries. Hard gelatine capsules required RH to be closer to 50% to avoid brittleness or wet shells. In the processes such as tablet coating , granulation etc. air is supplied at high temperatures which reduces the R.H. Humidification is also necessary for engine testing as well as accelerated rust testing.
