India’s air conditioning industry has traditionally focused on cooling and dehumidification. Heating and humidification rarely get the same attention. Outside of sectors like textiles, where high relative humidity is essential, humidification has often been treated as optional or ignored altogether. Many pharmaceutical plants built in the past didn’t factor in humidification during dry seasons. However the importance of humidification is now being realised by the user industries.

Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Cleanroom

For control of bacteria and viruses the recommended Relative Humidity is between 40 and 60% for all HVAC applications – especially in pharmaceutical industries. Hard gelatine capsules required RH to be closer to 50% to avoid brittleness or wet shells. In the processes such as tablet coating , granulation etc. air is supplied at high temperatures which reduces the R.H. Humidification is essential not only to prevent static electricity charges but is also beneficial for times release tablets.

Automotive

The ideal humidity for spraying paint onto bodywork is 72%RH, which minimizes evaporation and ensures proper application as intended by the manufacturer. Humidification is also necessary for engine testing as well as accelerated rust testing. In large assembly lines evaporative cooling is a suitable option to provide comfort to the workforce during hot and dry climatic conditions.

Electronic devices, printed circuit boards, components, and data are all highly susceptible to electrostatic discharge (ESD). Maintaining proper humidity levels is crucial for reducing damage caused by ESD. Installing a properly sized humidifier can help minimize product loss.

Keeping the humidity at 55% relative humidity helps prevent static by allowing moisture to act as a conductor, which dissipates any electrical charges caused by friction.
